On 10/08/2024, the Developmental Molecular Biology Laboratory, together with the Carlos Chagas Filho Memorial Space (EMCCF), welcomed students from Escola Municipal Vereador João da Silva Bezerra for a visit where students learned about the history of Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics (IBCCF) and learned a little about the work with Drosophila melanogaster and the Barbeiro vector of Chagas Disease.
During the visit, the groups were divided into two to make better use of the activities. The group responsible for the presentation about the Barbeiro addressed the animal’s life cycle by visualizing its different life stages, from egg to adult, as well as observing live specimens of the insect. During the measurement, Chagas Disease and its manifestation were discussed.
The group responsible for presenting Drosophila melanogaster commented a little on the structural characteristics of the insect, as well as the visible lesions present in fly models that present specific genotypic characteristics. This group presented the different stages of the insect’s life using optical criteria, differentiating the larva, pupa and adult stages.
