Model Insects and Insect Vectors of Disease

Insects are a class of hexapod invertebrates within the Arthropod phylum. Insects aremost diverse group of organisms, represented by over 900 thousand different insects, occupying a great diversity of ecological niches. We work with fruitfly genetic model Drosophila melanogaster, and with insect vectors of human disease, such as the kissing bug Rhodnius prolixus, vector of the debilitating Chagas disease.
